ANDERSON ON CUE TO RETAIN TITLE
By John Lowe, Jan 2 2016 08:44AM
Gary Anderson the reigning William Hill World Darts Champion took another step towards retaining hid crown after he beat James Wade 5-1 in a match he dominated throughout, hois average was 105.25 and contained 10 maximums, coupled with a finishing average of 53% he his doing everything he can to make sure the Sid Wadell Trophy remains in his trophy cabinet.
Jelle Klaasen beat Alan Noris 5-4 but not before he staged a remarkable comeback from 3-1 down, Noris was cruising until klaasen won 5 legs on the spin, at 4-4 Klaasen produced the perfect reply winning 3 legs needed to seal the match.
If Klaasen's comeback was great Barney's was sensational, 3 sets to 0 down against Michael Smith and only 3 legs won looked like being the end of Barney's championship, but he refued to go away and fought back to take the next 3 sets losing just one leg, match on, the next 2 sets where halved and it came down to the last set tie break, Barney completed yet another comeback to add to his previous ones in this championship winning the set 4-2 and going through to the semi-final.
Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright played a very good match, however the score-line suggests different, Lewis winning 5-2, the crucial part of the match was in the 5th set when Wright missed 2 set winning darts, he did take the 6th set and had a dart to take the 7th, but it was Lewis who finished the job and now goes into the semi-final.
