BETVISION CHARITY DARTS HUGE SUCCESS
By John Lowe, Jun 29 2015 07:23AM
The Norwich Betvision Charity Darts night at norwich F.C. on Saturday night was a huge success, promoted and hosted by Lord Russell Baker who used the night to support his many local charities throughout Norfolk, the night began with a superb buffet for the VIP ticket holders who also took the chance to have their photographs taken with the four professional players, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, Peter Manley and myself, the night started in earnest when the rest of the 400 plus audience arrived, Paul Booth was the MC for the night, John Fowler the caller, each professional played against 3 people from the audience before a short break, a auction of sporting memorabelia was conducted by Paul with a great response from members of the audience, then it was time for the Norwich Darts Trophy tournament, Eric Bristow played Keith Deller and Peter Manley played myself, the final was between Keith and myself, the format of best of 3 legs 501 left no room for mistakes and I went into a 1-0 lead with a break against the throw and my first maximum of the night, I threw another maximum in the second leg and opened a considerable lead but then the dreaded double trouble happened, I could not buy or find a finish and the game went 1-1, Keith opened the leg and held on to become the first inaugural winner of the Norwich Darts Trophy. Many of my good friends came out to support the charity and at the same time say hello, I lost count of the number of photographs I had taken with people I first met over 30 years ago now introducing their sons and daughters, facebook and twitter was certainly very busy ! my congratulations go to Lord Russell Baker and his fine team for organising the night, it was first class from beginning to end, a pleasure to be part of what I am sure will bring much needed support to many people, thank you everyone who came along and thank you Norwich.
