GERWEN AND ANDERSON RULE AT THE PALACE
By John Lowe, Jan 2 2015 09:44AM
Michael Van Gerwen became the first player to reach the semi-final of the William Hill World championship, many thought his match with Robert Thornton would be a close encounter and in many ways it was, both players avergaing over 100, MVG 105-26 and 13 maximums plus a 170 checkout for good measure, Thornton's average was 101-49 with 14 maximums, good enough to beat most, but MVG is not most he is the World champion and he came out to show he can retain the title, he beat Thornton by 5 sets to 2 and now goes on to play Gary Anderson in a mouth watering semi-final clash.
Gary Anderson played the flamboyant Peter Wright in the second semi-final, many including the Sky expert tipsters thought Wright would win this one, I didn't having picked Anderson to win the title a long time ago, Anderson went a long way to making that prediction come true, Anderson took the first 2 sets, Wright the 3rd and that really was it Anderson didn't look like losing another set and he didn't, the score line of 5-1 was justified, Anderson was the better player on the night and now faces the champion Michael Van Gerwen in the semi-final, that is one not to be missed.
Thanks to Adrian Lewis and his 9 dart game William Hill the Championship sponsor have donated £9,000 to the PDC charity Haven House Children's Hospice and £9,000 to Parkinson's UK, Lewis is in line for a £10,000 bonus providing no one else does a perfect game of 501 in the event.
