SINGA Beer Grand Slam of Darts
By John Lowe, Nov 7 2014 04:54PM
The Singa Beer Grand Slam of Darts begins Friday 8th November at Wolverhampton Civic Hall and with £400,000 in prize money up for grabs the players have plenty to aim for, Micheal Van Gerwen is the firm favourite with the bookmakers having won three events in October, the format of this tournament starts with eight groups and although the format is short it does give a player the opportunity to lose a match and still qualify for the second round stage, after the first matches in each group the winners will play the losers on the same group, the two winners of that round will play the final and progress to round two, this is the event put together by the PDC to encourage players from both divides to compete together on equal terms, in the past many BDO players have turned down the invitation to take part but the ever increasing amount of prize money available on the PDC circuit has been the deciding factor, the Grand Slam gives every player the opportunity to perform at their very best and the group format gives a chance for a sloppy first round loss to be overcome, predicting who will come through the group stages is probably the toughest ever and I can see a upset or two, we have eight days of interesting viewing, bring on the SINGA.
