Scoring for Show - Doubles for Dough
By John Lowe, Dec 30 2013 03:58PM
In the words of The King of Bling, Bobby George, Scoring is for show, doubles are for Dough, will he be right when tonights semi-finals of the Ladbroke.com World Championships are played at Ally Pally ? the quarter final form of the players, especially how they are paired tonight suggest little in the averages, Write's average 95.85, Whitlock 95.77, and their finishing average only 1.10% better to Write, they both played the full 9 sets in their respective matches, so on form this match should be tight and maybe go all the way. The second semi-final clash between MVG and Lewis tells a little different story, the average difference is only 2.30%, but the finishing is 24.34% both to MVG, could that be the telling factor of tonights clash, we have to remember Lewis only played 5 sets to MVG's 8, and that makes a difference in the averages both throwing and finishing, the style of throw between these two players is minimal, Lewis stands taller these days and releases his darts a little slower and smoother than he used to, MVG leans forward and powers the dart towards it's target, but his finishing is his strong point, from double three to 170, he is the best, so it's all set for two classic games, I know that doesn't always happen, many of the classics on paper turn out to be ugly games, a win is a win situation, it could happen tonight, let's hope not, one thing is for sure there will be high scores, maybe a 9 dart game (we havn't seen one since day one) but both winners will come from the most important part of throwing darts, Doubles.
I won't sit on the fence, my prediction: Whitlock and Lewis Final.
