THE COME BACK KID MICHAEL SMITH
By John Lowe, Dec 29 2014 03:28PM
Michael probably wont like that title to stick especially when he has adopted one of his own Bully Boy, but if he continues to come from behind he will be stuck with it, at 2 sets down against Brendan Dolan he needed something to happen and quick, it did and he reeled off 4 sets in a row only losing 2 legs to win the match 4-2, he now plays either Stephen Bunting or James Wade to gain a place in the top 8, you have to say he cannot afford to let either of them two players take an early lead, or can he ? this is a little about Michael Smith from Unicorns web site:
Michael Smith believes he can be one of the very best in the business.
He has the drive, the ambition, the ability and the backing of a three-year sponsorship from Unicorn as he continues a journey that he is convinced will lead to ‘Major’ darts titles.
Add to that the support from one of the very best in the business – mentor and fellow Team Unicorn star Gary Anderson – and you can see why it looks like a recipe for success in the darting world.
The 23-year-old starlet from St Helens has already made a big splash on the big darts stages and a place in the top 32 and beyond that is recognition for his talent on the oche.
The 2013 PDC Unicorn World Youth Champion has already tasted success on the Pro Tour – a hugely difficult thing to achieve in the highly competitive world of the PDC and not many have won UK Open qualifiers or Players Championship events, or indeed hit three 9 darters in competition!
Smith has a darting pedigree which will be on display for all to see over the next 20 years.
“I truly believe that I will win TV titles,” he said. “That is not arrogance, but simply belief that I can do that. I feel there is very little point in playing darts at the very highest level unless you believe you can win the big events and that includes the World Championship.”
John Lowe. three times champion of the world in three seperate decades, the 70's, the 80's and the 90's, the first player in the history of the sport to achieve the perfect game of 501 on Television, in 1984, winning £102,000, winner of over 1000 titles world wide, simply: The Legend of Darts.
