THE STORY OF THE STATS
By John Lowe, Jun 25 2015 09:01AM
For anyone who thinks dart playing is not a respected money earning profession then take a look at the story of the stats below, Michael Van Gerwen needs just £7,250 to reach the magic one Million mark, the top 8 players are around or above a quarter of a Million and 16th place player justin Pipe is on £191,250, all earned within the PDC 2 year ranking system, the prize fund goes down to the top 100 where Chris Dobey has £5,250, the incentive for players to reach the top have never been more encouraging, it may take quite a time for anyone to overtake Michael Van Gerwen at the top but when we take a look at the World Youth Champion of a year ago Keegan Brown and look how he has progressed in such a short time amassing £46,250 in prize money, changes at the top of the ladder are only a matter of time, it is not just earning the ranking money and sitting there comfortable knowing you are thousands of pound clear, it is when the two year period ends and money earned outside of that period is deducted, if you are not performing well at that time an inevitable drop down the table becomes a relaity, it's a challenge for the guys looking up and making their way up but it can be duanting for the players who know it's only a matter of time before they will be going down, a good system, but can be short term for some and the need to look after the finances they have is more than important.
