WADE - VAN GERWEN MATCHPLAY FINAL
By John Lowe, Jul 26 2015 07:08AM
James Wade ended Phil Taylor's amazing 7 year unbeaten run at the Winter Gardens last night, the match was even for a long time, level at 5-5 then 7-7 and 10-10, Wade then went into a 3 leg lead and looked to be in charge, at 16-12 Wade needing just one leg for victory missed eight match winning darts to let Taylor in and keep his hopes alive, Taylor won the 30 leg with a 14 dart game, Wade then closed the match out with a 12 dart leg and his place in the final was secure.
Michael Van Gerwen and Peter Wright matched each other dart for dart in the second semi-final, high scoring and good finishing meant the match was not clear who would emerge the winner until the dying stages, at 15-12 to Van Gerwen you always thought Wright was capable of pulling level, MVG was aware of the danger and when the opportunity came to close the match out he did so with a brilliant 10 dart leg, 140-174-171-D8 and claim his place in the final against James Wade.
Both Wade and Gerwen have played good darts all week and the final should be high class, Wade knows Gerwen's capable of a fast high scoring run that could leave him behind, Gerwen know's Wades finishing has been superb and a miss or two could be costly, all will be reveald tonight at 7pm on SKY Sports TV.
