Michael Van Gerwen retained his Coral UK Open Title in Minehead Butlins Resort last night, beating Peter Wright in the final 11-4, once again MVG averaged over the 100 mark, proving to one and all he is the man to beat, Wright missed double 12 to complete the perfect game which would have seen him take half the £10,000 bonus MVG was holding after doing a 9 dart leg earlier in the event, Van Gerwen found himself 4-1 down against Taylor in the semi-final, in the past hadly anyone ever beat Taylor from such a lead, but MVG is not anyone and he roared back to level at 4-4 and go on to take the match 10-6, Wright beat Jelle Klaasen in the other semi-final 10-5.

MVG picked up £60,000 for his win and £10,000 bonus for the 9 dart leg, Wright picked up £30,000.

An evening with John Lowe gives you the chance to play a World Champion, the first player to record the perfect game of 501 in 9 darts on TV, give yourself a night to remember.

Michael Van Gerwen went top of the Premier League table last night after his 7-2 win over Peter Wright, after his record breaking performance last week averaging 123, he stacked up more remarkable stats: a 10 dart leg, an 11 dart leg and 3 - 12 dart legs, finishing with an average of 116-67. Phil Taylor joined MVG at the top of the table level on points but behind on legs difference by just 3, Taylor beat Adrian Lewis 7-1 in a match that 180 King Lewis didn't hit 1, Taylor averaged 104.

James Wade beat Dave Chisnall 7-4, Chisnall's downfall, missed doubles. Gary Anderson beat Robert Thornton 7-4 in a match you could say was odrinary by Premier League standards, niether player going over the 90 average.Michael smith recorded his first win of the season with a 7-5 result against Barney, the match was close but it was Smith who made the deciding break of throw in the 12 leg to seal the win.

Michael Van Gerwen produced one of the finest dispalys of dartsmanship ever seen last night in Aberdeen, playing against Michael Smith in the Premier League he averaged 123-40 in the 7-1 win, overtaking the previous record of 118-66 set by Phil Taylor in 2010, and it could have been higher but for a missed dart at D18 to take the 7th set at 136.

Adrian Lewis beat James Wade 7-5 in a close match that looked to be going Wades way, but at 5-5 Lewis stepped up a gear winning 2 on the trot.

Gary Anderson bear Barney 7-3 and has rightly pointed out Barney had to play Gary plius the 4000 audience who without doubt made the most noise of the PL this year, chanting Gary Gary Gary Anderson throught the match.

Phil Taylor beat Dave Chisnall in a superb match that would have been the highlite of the night if Van Gerwen had not already stolen it, both players averaged over 100, Taylor 115-22 Chisnall 109-63.

Peter Wright secured a 6-6 draw with Robert Thornton and the 1 point earned was enough to see him retain his spot at the top of the table, at the bottom of the table Michael Smith is firmly rooted with just 1 point after playing 5 matches.

Gary Anderson showed he is almost back to full recovery after a virus laid him low for a while, when he produced a magical display to defeat James Wade in the Coral Uk Open Qualifier number 4 in Wigan, after missing the first 3 qualifiers through his illness he wasted no time in cementing his place in the tournament proper, he had wins against Darren Webster, Mike de Decker, Andrew Gilding, Mark Webster, Simon Whitlock and the ever improving Benito van de Pas, Qualifier no 5 starts today and no 6 tomorrow.

Peter Wright won his 3rd match in a row in as many weeks the PL has been running, his win against James Wade was a polished performance, after going 2-0 down Wright pulled back to 3-3 and never looked like losing after that, final score 7-4, this put him 2 points clear at the top of the table, a very healthy position to be in so early. Other results: Chisnall 6 Smith 6, Taylor 7 Anderson 4, MVG 7 Lewis 4, Thornton 5 Barney 7. Anderson and Thornton are pointless after playing 2 matches, they do have a game in hand after missimng a week each through illness, but it can get very tough the longer you stay rooted to the bottom.

By John Lowe, Feb 15 2016 09:32AM

Michael Van Gerwen made the Dutch Master his own when he won for the third year in a row, beating Daryl Gurney in the final 6-2, with an average of 102-26 and 70% on the finishing doubles, Gurney put up a great display throughout the tournament and his final placing see's him break into the top 32 in the World for the first time, on his way to the final gurney beat Adrian Lewis in a match that had the Dutch fans on thier feet, gurney hit 9 maximums and had an average of 106-84 in his 6-4 win. Mensur Soljvic reached his second European tour semi-final by beating Simon Whitlock 6-3, Benito Van de Pas was also in fine form but his doubles deserted him when he was 5-0 up against Mervyn King, 10 missed match winning doubles will haunt him for quite a while, the star of the day was MVG winning the title that ranks number 1 in Holland, as he rightly said, It feels good to win in my own country and even better when i play so well in the final, maybe they will have to rename the tournament The MVG Dutch Masters.

By John Lowe, Feb 12 2016 10:56AM

Michael Van Gerwen and Phil Taylor bounced back from last weeks defeats in the P.L. beating Gary Anderson and James Wade respectively, both players averaged over 111, MVG beat Anderson 7-3 averaging 111-88 and a 70% finishing average, this was Anderson's first match in the league after missing the first week with illness, but he had no excuses for the loss to the world number 1 who was in blistering form. Taylor played James Wade who was playing his second match of the night, standing in for Robert Thornton who went down with illness earlier, Taylor was very clinical winning 7-1 averaging 111-22 and 70% on doubles. Adrian Lewis went top of the League with his 7-4 win over Dave Chisnall, the match was even but Lewis should have wrapped it up in the 9th set when he had 5 match winning doubles, Peter Wright beat Barney 7-5 with a 88 average, which in this league is less than average, Barney should have taken at least a draw, missed doubles cost him dearly, Wright goes joint top of the league behind on leg difference only, Michael Smith looked a worried man when he lost his third match in a row, he played twice last week as stand in for Anderson, he went down to James Wade 7-4, as a newcomer to the Premier League he must find his form and ability to play in front of such massive crowds, he only has a few weeks to do so before 2 players are eliminated.
