Much fancied Robert Thornton crashed out of the World Championships last night to Alan Noris 3 sets to 0, Noris making is debut at Ally Pally set of in fine form winning the first set 3-0, the second set was closer at 3-2 but Noris powered on in the 3rd winning 3-1, Thornton was clearly disappointed with his performance but take nothing away from Noris who was the better player on the night and deserved his win.
Michael Smith and Jeffrey De Zwaan played one of the best matches in the tournament to date, they took the match all the way, and by that I mean sudden death play off, just one leg of 501 to decide the outcome, with the score level at 2 sets each and 5 legs each in the decider, De Zwaan threw 29 to start the crucial leg and that was enough to let Smith gain a big lead and the match and move into round 2.
James Wade closed the days play with a clinical display against John Michael winning 3-0.

Mensur Suljvic the Austrian Darts Master made his mark at Ally Pally yesterday in day 4 of the World Championship, the player with the unteachable style proved yet again that the will to win can overcome, after losing the first set to Jermaine Wattimera, Suljovic stepped up to the Oche with the determination that has seen him reach the latter stages of many recent tournaments, at 1 set each he took control and started a winning run of 6 legs out of 7 and with it a 3 sets to 1 victory, Suljovic may look untidy with his throwing action, but for him it works extremely well, a 99.44 average and a 44% finishing average is right up there with anyone in this tournament so far.
Andy Hamilton went out to Joe Murnan 3-2, Stephen Bunting beat Jyhan Artut 3-0, and Barney beat Dirk Van Duijvenbode 3-0, Veteran Paul Lim was beaten by the Russian player Aleksandr Oreshkin 2-1 in a qualifying match, Oreshkin then went on to play Mervyn King in round one proper and looked like he was going to make another upset to the form book when he went 2 sets up, King however fought his way back to level the match at 2 sets each and then take the final set 3 legs to 2 for victory.

Phil Taylor beat Keita Ono 3-0 in a match he was always going to win, his average of 98 was respectable but his finishing average of 60% was quailty.
Simon Whitlock was put out by Ricky Evans in a great match to watch, Whitlock should have won 3-0 but missed doubles allowed Evans back in and he took his chance and the match to a tie break in the 5th set which he won 6 legs to 4 and the match.
Ian white was beaten by Belgian youngster Dimitri Van de Bergh 3-1, white won the first set 3-2 when den Bergh missed 4 darts to take it, he bounced back and took sets 2 and 3 dropping just 1 leg, then went on to take the 4th set and the match.
Other results: Beaton beat Koha Kakiri 3-0. Painter beat Kim Viljanen 3-0 and Vincent Van de Voort beat Laurence Ryder 3-0.

Mighty Michael Van Gerwen was given the shock of his darting life by Rene Eidams at Ally Pally last night, after winning the first 2 sets 3-0 and looking like he was going to be on his Christmas break in a few minutes, everything changed, Eidams staged an amazing come back winning 6 of the next 7 legs and taking the match to the last set, and he wasn't done there, they traded legs until it was 2-2 and at that point the tie break came into force, one player had to win by 2 legs clear, MVG knew he was on the verge of going out and the vast audience at the Palace sensed something specially was happening, well, it wasn't special by MVG's standards but he produced 2 solid legs to scramble over the finishing line no doubt thanking his lucky stars.
Kyle Anderson played superb against Brendon Dolan beating him 3-0. David Pallett was not in any awe of KimHuybrechts and matched him dart for dart, saving the best for last going out on 121 to win the match.
Christian Kist put Justin Pipe out 3-0 in a match that was one sided to say the least, Pipe just didn't turn up, a surprise for someone who always gives a good account.
John Henderson went out to Darren Webster 3-1, Mark Webster continued his run of form against Mick McGowan winning 3-0.
But the night belonged to Michael Van Gerwen who had to dig deep into his reserves to beat the young German player Rene Eidams.

Reigning World Champion Gary Anderson started the defence of his title with a solid performance against Andy Boulton with a 3 sets to 0 win, the first and second sets went to Anderson 3-0, Boulton managed to level the 3rd set at 2-2 only to see Anderson check out on 62 and a place in the second round.
Peter Wright sealed his second round spot with a 3-0 win over Keegan Brown, Wright many peoples favourite to lift the trophy come January 3rd looked in good form throughout and although Brown managed to level the thrid set and keep his hopes alive Wright took out a 131 finish to seal a good win.
Daryl Gurney beat Jamie Lewis 3-1, Gurney started like a train winning the first set 3-0 with an avaergae of 110, Lewis came back at him but missed doubles let Gurney take the set and go on to take the match.

I did probably the most interesting Radio interview I have ever done yesterday, it was for Canadian Chinese Radio in Ontario, the programme was "All About Darts" The show is produced by Efren 'Bong' Faldes and co hosted by Peter Scott and interpreted by Robert Mok a retired University Professor, the interview took one hour and it went by like wildfire, it was split into 4 segments of 12 minutes, this allowed for interpretation and advertisements, the guys had certainly done their research knowing everything about me and allowing me to reply to each question with honesty, we tried to cover all subjects from the early days to the modern day and it was nice to be able to spend quite a time talking about my sponsor, Unicorn and the longevity of that association, I have done many interviews World Wide, this one rates right up there with the best, thank you Efren for inviting me on your show and for the professional way you conducted the interview.

In 3 days time the World's biggest darts tournament The William Hill Darts Championships run by the Professional Darts Council will begin, Alexandra Palace will be the host for the next 18 days, thousands of spectators will make the daily journey to the venue affectionately known Ally Pally, SKY Sport will cover the event live on their dedicated darts channel no 407. With over One and a Half Million pounds in prize money there will be no shortage of competition, the first round will be played before Christmas and the New Year, the Quarter Finals will be played on New Years Day, the Semi-Finals on Jan 2nd and the Grand final on Jan 3rd, Who will the Champion be at the end of the 18 days? will Gary Anderson retain the title he won this year? there is a lot of darts to be played before we find out, Anderson will play his first match on the opening night against the winner of the qualifier between Andy Boulton and Per Laursen, he will be pleased to get his campaign up and running right from the start, for Adrian Lewis it will be another 7 days before he makes that long walk to the Ally Pally stage, in the meantime he can only watch and wait and believe me that will not be easy, it can be frustrating trying to practice and at the same time monitoring the progress of others, just hoping you are at your best when your time to play comes along. Who do I think will be the eventual Champion? On present form I cannot see past Michael Van Gerwen but I am sure there are many players who will definitely disagree, there will be maximums galore, averages through the roof, maybe a couple of 9 dart games, and without doubt missed doubles that will reduce men to tears, in the words of Boxing MC Michael Buffer "Let's Get Ready To Rumble" and there will certainly be plenty of that I am sure.
