Michael Van Gerwen produced a master class of darts at the Singha Beer Grand Slam against Steve Beaten, he won the match 10-2 a flattering score line that suggests Beaten did not play well, but that couldn't be further from the truth, MVG missed hardly anything and it was the 7th leg before Beaten got on the score card and he needed a 116 finish to do that, it took 4 missed darts by MVG in the next leg to hand Beaten his second and last leg of the match, Steve could only shake hands, smile, and say "you are quite good at this game" Class.

Michael Bully Boy Smith knew he had to play well to beat an in form Dave Chisnall, and he did just that,9 maximums and an average of 104 to win the match 10-7.

Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright was always going to be a close match on paper and at 4-4 we looked set for one of those last leg games, but Lewis got in front and never lost his lead winning 10-7.

Martin Adams, BDO stalwart known for many years to criticize the PDC and the people who run it, openly declaring he would never accept his invitation to play at Wolves finally decided it was time to try his hand, and he hasn't let himself or his supporters down, unbeaten in the group matches and reaching the last 16 in style, his opponet last night was Kim Huybrechts a player gaining experience all the time, the match was close, very close, Adams raced into a 3-0 lead, Huybrechts pulled back to level 3-3, still level at 7-7 and indeed 9-9, just one leg to decide who went through, Huybrects throwing first and producing a 13 dart leg finishing on tops, Adams left with 80, who knows how long the match would have lasted if the 2 legs clear winning format ahd been in place, just 80 points seperating the two.

Mark Webster beat reinging World champion Gary Anderson 10-6 at Wolves last night and the story is a familiar one, finishing averages: Anderson 38% Webster 71%. Robert Thornton edged out Robbie Green 10-8, Taylor beat Jenkins 10-6 with a below par performance by his standards, James Wade lost to Barney and again the dreaded doubles sealed his fate, just 26% finishing average, he did hit 8 maximums in his 10-7 defeat, but he will curse those missed doubles which surely cost him the chance to proceed to the quarter finals, it is a fact that todays top players hit more 180's than ever before but the end story is all about the finishing and that is far from consistant with many.

Michael Van Gerwen kept up his relentless high scoring to beat Steve West 5-3 and go into the top 16 inbeaten at the Grand Slam last night, his average of 105.38 was by far the highest pof the night, however his 31% on the finishing doubles must improve if he is to stay in till the end.

It was goodbye to the ever popular Andy Fordham who lost to Michael Smith, joining MVG in the top 16 from last nights matches are: KimHuybrechts, Martin Adams (unbeaten) Steve Beaten (on legs difference) Michael Smith, Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright and Dave Chisnall.

When my good friend and founder / owner of Bulls Eye News, Jay Thomlinson decided to retire after many years promoting and reporting the sport of darts through his excellent magazine, we wondered if that would be the end of BEN, well, the good news is Catherine Haycock and her husband who reside in Canada have taken over and their first issue has now been released, the quality and the layout of BEN I have always been a long time admirer of and it is just as good if not better, there is a link to BEN at the bottom right of this page, it's free to view and contains great reports and information, well done to Catherine, a lady I have personaly know for over 30 years, she started as a player and supporter, then a reporter for BEN, now the owner of the best darts magazine on the Planet.

Raymond Van Barnaveldt played his match againsy American Larry butler knowingh defeat would see him out of the Grand slam at wolves, seasoned campaigner Butler fought back from 2-0 down to level then missed darts at doubles to go 3-2 and 4-3 up, Barney did not let him back in and closed the match out at 5-3, he now joins Gary Anderson in the last 16, the top 2 from each group goig through, Taylor, Wade, Thornton and Anderson go through unbeaten, Terry Jenkins went through on legs difference. Geet De Vas claimed the top average to date in the event with 113-84 in his 5-0 win over Johnny Clayton, tonight will see the remained of the group stage finish, then as they say, the tournament starts for real.

Dave Chisnall hit his first televised 9 dart game at Wolverhampton in the Grand Slam of Darts, playing against Peter Wright, Chisnall hit 2 maximums and took out 141 on double 12, he is now in line for a £30,000 bonus payout should no one else achieve the feat, it is however quite possible with the amount of legs played in this round robin tournament that someone else will emulate Chisnall, Chisnall beat Wright 5-2 and recorded the highest average of the event so far, a very impressive 109.84

Chisnall celebrates his 9 dart leg, Wright leads the applause.

It's that time of year, The Grand Slam, the tournament that brings together players from the PDC and the BDO to play against each other, many of the BDO players have refused to take part in the past but that is really an issue that is fast disappearing, the professional PDC circuit is full of untold rewards for the quality players, it's nice to have loyalties to your chosen association but in the end money talks and this event not only gives the players a chance to compete accross the divide but also shows there should not be one, full stop. This event gives a player more than one chance, it's a group format, each player in the group will play each other once, when that's over the top 2 will progress to the KO round, to bring you up to date with each match is not easy, so better to tell you how players are doing. Gary Anderson averaged 103 in his win against Barney 5-3, Taylor went better with a 108 against Robbie Green 5-2, and Martin Adams played his "A" game against in form Ian Wright winning 5-2, I am going to leave it there, why ? well as they say it's only just began and there are lot's of matches before the real event begins, will try my best to keep you updated.

Michael Van Gerwen beat Gary Anderson in the final of the Betwin European Championship in Belgium last night and retained the title he won least year, MVG found himself 10-7 down but produced darts of the highest quality to level the match at 10-10, he them closed the match out with a 75 finish after Anderson could not take out 134, MVG avaraged 107 in the final and Anderson 102, both finishing averages the same around 53%, Anderson said he will put the loss behind him and concentrate for the next match, the Grand slam next week at Wolverhampton, I trust he will be able to do this because his first round match is against Phil The Power Taylor.

Early Lewis beat Taylor 10-9, Anderson beat Klaasen 10-6, MVG beat Chisnell 10-4 and Wright beat Henderson 10-4. The semis final rsults: MVG beat Wright 11-7 and Anderson beat Lewis 11-5.
