Twenty four teams competed in the 11th John Lowe Charity Golf Classic, the host venue was the Amarilla Golf Club Tenerife, the format was Texas Scramble Teams of Four, the main sponsor Aberdeen Property Leasing, at 9am a rocket was fired high into the sky and play began off all 18 tee's, just over 4 hours later all the Buggy's arrived back at the club house, we all enjoyed a very good BBQ and entertainment from Ged Bolten and Spencer Robson, I conducted the auction and presented the awards, The Hole in the Wall team won division one and Team Amarilla won division two, everything was finished for 6pm and the good news and most important the sum of over £10,000 was raised for our chosen charity AMATE Breast Cancer Care Tenerife, what started out 11 years ago as a fun day, 12 guys playing golf for a few Euro has now become a major fixture in Tenerife, next years date is already fixed: September 17th, our main sponsor Aberdeen Property Leasing has agreed to sponsor again and Sabastian St James the sponsor of the hole in one has also agreed to be a part of the event. It is very rewarding to be able to use my name gained from standing at the Oche throwing darts and winning World Championship to raise valuable funds for a very worthy charity, my thanks go out to the players, all the sponsors and the many supporters who turn out every year and to Eduardo and his family and staff at Amarilla Golf Club, you always make me welcome, thank you one and all.

It's that time of year, time out, recharging the batteries on the Island of Tenerife, tempertures in the high 20's even at night, relaxing away from the Oche, playing golf taking in the sun, enjoying the good food and at the same time helping to raise much needed funds for a local charity AMATE Breast Cancer Care Tenerife, Eric Bristow is here and he joined us for 18 holes yesterday, this weekend is my annual charity golf day and we have 24 teams competing on the Amarilla Golf Club, it is sure to be a fine day and no sooner is it over we are planing for next year. I call it training camp after all athlete go overseas to train why not dart players !

Michesl Smith retained his European Darts Trophy with a convincing win over Michael Van Gerwen in the final this weekend by 6 legs to 2, Smith had early beat Mervyn King 6-2 and Ian Whight 6-3, Van Gerwen made his way to the final via Dave Chisnall 6-0, Peter Wright 6-2, MVG was the favourite to take the title but Smith had ideas of his own and produced his best darts to retain the title. Smith has for so long promised to climb up the rankings and be a major player in the PDC tour but his temperament has been questioned many times, hence his nick name Bully Boy, maybe this latest win will be the beginning of a consistent run up to the world championships in just over 12 weeks time.

Adrian Lewis beat Raymond Van Barnaveldt 11 legs to 10 to win the TAB Auckland Darts Masters in a close and tense final. Lewis was outgunned by Barney who hit 11 maximums and although 8-5 and 10-8 down came back to level at 10-10, at this stage he looked to be the favourite to take the title but 5 missed darts at the double cost him dearly, Lewis recovered from 2 missed darts at the double to take out the dreaded Mad House double 1 and seal a great victory, Lewis had earlier beat Phil Taylor by 10 legs to 9 in his semi-final and Barney had taken out James Wade by 10 legs to 6 in his semi, over 5000 fans watched the darts in the Trust Arena Auckland and a follw up return next year is a certainty, the World Series of Darts has been a major success and it will be a priority for many players to be selected to take part in coming years. It does leave question for thought that America is not included and it may be time to consider a return with New York and the Eastern Seaboard being a possibility.

It's that time of year again, on the Reef (Tenerife) I call it training camp, take in a little sun, walk or ride the fairways and bring the dart action back to it's best, will be ready to hit the road again on return, quite a few exhibitions in the diary, will post all locations later.
