This was Smith's second win on the PDC Tour and he picked up £25,000 for his brilliant effort.

England duo Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis beat Scotland's Gary anderson and Peter Wright to win the bwin World Cup of Darts in Germany, the final produced the match everyone had been waiting for, high scoring, high finishing and anything but predictable, Taylor defeated Wright in the first singles match 4-0 with an average of 113. Anderson responds for Scotland beating Lewis 4-1 with another ton plus average, the pairs match that followed went all the way and it was left to Taylor to take out 101 in the deciding 7th leg to take england into the lead. Taylor then faced Anderson in the singles round and it was the Scotsman who pulled out all the stops to win 4-1 and level the score at 2-2, match 4 was Lewis v Wright, Lewis hit top form to take the match 4-1 and give England a 3-2 victory and the World Cup for the 3rd time in 4 years.

The bwin World Cup of Darts continued with expected wins for England, Scotland, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Germany, all winning their matches 2-0, the only match to go to the deciding doubles stage was between Hong Kong and the Republic of Ireland, many would say it was the most exciting match of the tournament so far, the event will come to a conclusion today, the quarter final matches being played this afternoon: Belgium v Australia, Scotland v Hong Kong, England v Germany, Northern Ireland v Netherlands, maybe we will see the competition become more intense with the doubles coming into play, so far it has been a cake walk for the top teams, so much so they could have stayed out until the top 8 stage letting the other Nations play off to decide who would face them, just a thought from a arm chair viewer.

The bwin World Cup (I prefer to call it the World pairs) a description easier to understand the format and the boundries available, started in Eissporthalle, Germany yesterday and there wasn't any surprises, Spain, Japan,England and Germany all whitewashed their opponents 5-0, Austria beat the Czech Republic 5-2, Gibralter beat Italy 5-1 Australia beat Russia 5-1 and Belgium beat Philappines 5-2, if I don't sound very enthusiastic I am sure you will understand, I am not, I don't understand why the PDC need this event, it will inevitably be the same players reaching the finals we have seen for weeks and weeks on our TV screens. Day two produced a little more excitment when Hong Kong put Wales out 5-3, Canada lost to New Zealand 4-5, Sweden went out to Hungary 5-2 and South Africa beat Finland 5-4, the Republic of Ireland whitewashed Poland 5-0 and Scotland's duo Gary Anderson and Peter Wright pulled no surprises when they put America out 5-2. The holders of the Cup representing the Netherlands Michael Van Gerwen and Raymong Van Barnaveldt remarkably droped 2 legs in their 5-2 win over Thailand, the second round starts today and should throw up a couple of decent matches Northern Ireland v New Zealand, Belgium v Spain come to mind but it will mainly be a procession of the top teams to the next round.

Michael Van Gerwen made it 4 successive PDC European Tour event wins in 2015 when he won the Dutch Darts Masters last night, after beating Dave Chisnall to reach the quarter finals, things then became a little tougher, a close 6-5 win against Mervyn king followed by a semi-final win against Terry Jenkins with the same score, Justin Pipe was waiting in the final after wins against Josh Payne and Jamie Caven, the final however was a one sided affair MVG was in a ruthless mood and Pipe had no answer, 6 legs and it was over and Van Gerwen had won his second straight Dutch Masters Title in front of 5,000 adoring fans.

The question everyone is asking in world darts, who can stop MVG, will he carry on and dominate the sport like Taylor did for so long? at the moment he is clearly enjoying his darts, playing in every event possible, the more he beats players and wins titles the more fear will replace respect from his opponents making him even harder to beat, it is going to be interesting to see how many more titles he can make his own before the end of 2015.
