Raymond Van Barneveldt produced finishes of 120 and 156 in his win over Robbie Green last night at the World Championships, the score was 3-0 to Barney in a game he never looked to be troubled, Green did not produce the kind of form we know he can, but it would be right to say I have not seen Barney so relaxed for a long time, could it be his year ?
Simon Whitlock also won 3-0 against qualifyer Dragutin Horvat from Germany, Whitlock had finishes of 92, 170, and 158 to seal his first round win at the Championships for 3 years.
Brendan Dolan had a tough draw against Christian Kist but he raised to the occasion winning the first set 3-0, Kist bounced back taking the second set 3-0, it was then Dolans turn winning the 3rd set 3-0, in the 4th set it was 1-1 before Dolan took the next 2 legs and a great victory.

Mervyn king and Steve West played a tense, close match, King eventually winning the deciding set 6 legs to 4, Kings post match interview must go down one, if not the strangest of all time, he could not talk about the match at all because in his own words "I cannot remember any of it"
Joe Cullen had to play the match of his life to overcome Corey Cadby, the Australin, Unicorn World Youth Champion, Corey took the first set in style 3-1, with 3 x 180 in 2 legs, Cullen stepped up a gear in the second set, hitting 4 x 180 and a fantastic 117 checkout to level the score, Cullen kept the pressure on young Cadby adding another 2 maximums, 2-1, Cadby fought back taking the first leg in set 4, Cullen leveled, then took the next 2 legs to win the match 3-1 and his first ever win in the World Championship, Cullen will now play Adrian Lewis in round 2, a great match in prospect, Cadby will cetainly be back, a player of the future.

Alan Norris was stirring defeat in the face against Greece's John Michael, at 2 sets to 0 down Norris had to dig deep and to be honest rely on a few misses from Michael, the match was level at 2-2 and Norris was looking a little more relaxed, Michael took out a brilliant 106 to level the thrid and deciding set at 1-1 and it was still in the balance, Norris took out double 16 and then double 10 to move into the 2nd round, John Michael looked devastated knowing the match was his to win.

Michael Smith beat Ricky Evans 3-2 in a game that can only be described, very, very, fast, Evans must be the fastest thrower in the sport, his third dart almost leaving his hand before the first one has landed.
Jamie Lewis took out Mick Mcgowan by 3 sets to 1, and Kevin Painter beat Jamie Caven 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament. We can now sit back and watch as the story of the William Hill World Championship unfolds, game well and truly on.

The William Hill World Darts Championships begins tomorrow on SKY TV Sports live from Alexandra Palace London, fondly know Ally Pally, 72 players from around the World will compete for the £1.65 Million pound prize fund, Gary Anderson will be bidding to win 3 consecutive championships, will he succeed ? Michael Van Gerwen winner of 25 tournaments in 2016 will be desperate to add the most prestigious title of all to the list, Kevin Painter and Jamie Caven have the privelage of getting the tournament underway, Anderson will also play his first game on the opening night againsy Mark Frost, will there be any surprises ? history tells us that will be the case, a few first round matches that could provide a few upsets are: Stephen Bunting v Darren Webster, Justin Pipe v Chris Dobey, Dave Chisnall v Rowby John Rodrequez, Kim Huyberchts v James Wilson, the first round will be the best of 5 sets, the second round best of 7, quarter finals best of 9, semi-finals best of 11 and the grand final the best of 13. The champion will be crowned on the 2nd of January 2017.
William Hill will give £9,000 for every 9 dart game acheived to Parkinsons Disease Charity, I am looking forward to watching what could be the best championship of all time, there are a lot of questions that will be answered come 2107, there will be a few players having an unexpected Christmas having to watch as others play on, that is the beauty of this great tournament, the unexpected is always just around the corner, we all have our favourites, but if any of them do not bring their "A" game to the Oche they could be gone, let the challenge begin.

Michael Van Gerwen won the Cash Convertor Players Championship in Minehead last night with a 11-3 win over Dave Chisnall in the final, this was his 25th tounrnament win of 2016, Chsnall stayed with MVG for a while, but that was all it was, just 3 legs out of 14, MVG averaged 108 and had legs of 10,11,12,13 and 14 darts, the final may have been easy but the semi-final produced a scare for MVG, playing Darren Webster he found himself 6-0 down, at that stage MVG had to prove his World number 1 ranking, and he did just that, allowing Webster 2 more legs in a thrilling 11-8 victory.
Corey Cadby beat Berry Van Peer to win the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship, Australian Cadby has enjoyed a great year, dominating the Australian Grand Prix Circuit, defeating Phil Taylor in the Perth Masters and winning a PDC Unicorn development tour title last month, at 21 years of age he is an emerging force for the future.
