PDC Chairman Barry Hearn has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business by the University of East London.
The presentation, which will be made next Tuesday, will honour Hearn's contribution to sport over the past four decades and will be made by the UEL's School of Health, Sport and Bioscience.
"I received this letter in the post which came as a huge shock and a tremendous honour," said Hearn.
"It's something that I'm really looking forward to, a unique occasion - I've had a few occasions in my life that I'll never forget and I think this is going to be another one of them.
"I think it's a statement of how the world has changed. When I was growing up I decided to be a chartered accountant, and it was very difficult with the background I had, but we live in the world of opportunity.
"It wasn't always like that. I took my opportunity and I've seen the benefits in my life and my children's life."
Barry Hearn will receive his Honorary Doctorate of Business at 2.30pm, on Tuesday, 18 November, at indigo at The 02 Arena, Peninsula Square, London, SE10 0DX.
Congratulations Doctor Hearn from myself and Karen, you richly deserve this award and a thank you for all you have contributed to the sport of darts.

The Quarter final line up was completed at the Grand Slam of Darts at Wolves Civic Hall last night, Smith, King, Taylor and Bunting all made it through to the disapointment of Kist, Anderson, Wright and Wade, but what does the Tale of The Tungsten tell us?
99.97 Smith 7
94.12 King 6
101.70 Taylor 3
98.24 Bunting 5
That suggests Taylor is finishing the best but down in the maximum division, Bunting is right there with his all round game, King is slightly behind in the averages but more than ready with his 180's, and Smith's average plus maximums is a match for them all, of course things can go wrong when your opponent turns up the presure and at the moment it looks like that will be the deciding factor, who ever handles the presure best and responds the best will come out the winner, Taylor has been there before but has been know to wilt of late when the matches get longer, will this event be his return to the winners place or will one of the outsiders like Bunting claim the prize, interesting.

November is the month in the UK when the men grow (try to grow) their Moustache, the people who set it up call in MOVEMBER, the aim is to bring awareness to Mens health and support by raising money for the same, a little reluctantly I joined up, well didn't do the Ice Bucket Challenge and this is my way of making amends, just 17 more days to go and then it will be " Will it stay or will it go"

That was the message sent out last night to all PDC players, Keegan Brown the Unicorn World Youth Champion has arrived and he looks like he is here to stay. Barney did not know what had hit him last night when Keegam went into a 9-3 lead and threw 4 missed darts to take the match 10-3, Barney recovered to take the next four legs but the result was inevitable and Keegan leapt abpout the stage in a victory celabration befiting Spider Man. Kim Huybercts played superb in his 10-5 win over Alan Noris, while Robbie King Kong Green looked like he had met a monster, or should I say looked in the mirror, he was totally out of sorts and form and Chisnall must have thought Christmas had arrived early 10-3. Jenkins put a 4 leg fight up against MVG then just seemed to lose heart, MVG will not win many matches 10-4 with an average of just 88. Still a great night of TV darts.

A great result at Wolves last night, I was convinced of the results, maybe Wright v Whitlock was the only one in question but it was King v Caven who caused concern.

The last day of the group stages at Wolves Civic Hall before we start the second round or as I prefer to call it, the start of the competition, groups are fine and always throw up a few surprises non more so than Robert Thornton not winning a single match and Adrian Lewis bottom of his group and gone. Some of tonights matches are irrelevant, King, Smith, Bunting are all through, but if you liike a bet and many of us do we will be expecting all players to be playing to win, I like the left hand side of the draw for tonights matches: King, Anderson, Wade, Taylor, Bunting, Smith, Kist, Wright, a bold prediction I know but it does make the TV viewing that little more enjoyable.
