A memory introduced through darts: Brian Adams was born on this day in 1969, one of only a few famous people born on our Guy Fawkes night, thats the guy who tried to burn down the Houses of Parliament, and who we have to thank for giving us the biggest firework night of the year in the UK. Back to my story, in 1983 I was making a Video Tape at Elstree Studios, it was I believe the first instructional Video for darts, Phil Jones and Ritchie Gardener were also involved, I was talking through one part of the recording, explaining the various shapes, weights, and styles of darts of that time to Phil, I looked up and standing at the back of the room was David Bowie and Phil Collins, well you can imagine, I dried up, Bowie said, don't mind us, carry on, and I did. When we finished that part of the recording, I asked what they were doing here, making China Girl in next doors studio, Gary Numan, famous for the song Cars, was also there and he invited us to go to a charity concert that night at Hammersmith Pally, London. It was a night never to be forgotten, we were back stage with some of the biggest names in Rock, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, a close resident of mine, Joe Cocker, and a very young Brian Adams, Cocker stole the show, he was brilliant, and in the company of such greats that takes a lot of doing, the concert was in support of Ronnie Lane of the Faces, who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and sadly died at the age of 51, I had to share this story with you, it is in my Biography "Old Stoneface" a great night in my life, all because of a sport called darts.

The Waterloo Bowling Club came to light on Friday, the night of my visit, Paul Hodders put a fantastic night together for his chosen charity, the Childrens Hospital, it was a full house, and a great atmosphere, the standard off play was good, the format of 501, chellenger to throw first was a big contribution to the couple of games I lost, but it was the spirit everything was conducted in that made the night special, I am looking forward to my next visit, and congratulate Hodders and his team for the work they are doing for the children.

The World Grand Prix of Darts at the City West, Dublin, produced some of the finest games last night, the defending champion Micheal Van Gerwen, was sensationaly knocked out of the tournament by Dave Chisnall 3-2, chisnall scored 10 x 180 and 36 scores of 100 and over in the double in double out format, MVG did make a come back from a 2 sets down, but chisnall kept the pressure on to the end, a great win. Justin Pipe put on a strong performance to defeat And Hamilton by 3 sets to 1, Hamilton did not look the smae player he was in previous rounds, but that takes nothing away from Pipe. James Wade and Simon Whitlock fought a close battle, Wade coming out the winner 3-2. Phil The Power Taylor put on a all round show of Power to beat Gary Anderson 3-0, setting up a semi final match with Wade tonight, the other semi - Chisnall v Pipe.

A debatable question: Is it time you renewed your darts? the answer is quite simple, if your throwing abilty has deteriated, your confidence will also be low, you are maybe trying to think of many ways to solve it, different flights, new points, shorter stems, but still no result, then as a lsat resort you decide, New Darts. I opened a new set of my Unicorn John Lowe Golden Titanium 21 gram Darts, two days ago, I put them into a brand new Maxi Case, complete with 6 sets of my signature standard shape flights, a few sets off Fiesta Stems, standard length, and boy, did I feel good, I did not have to question the darts, they are the same quailty I have been using for over 45 years, nor did I have to question my abilty, but conffidence is something that comes and goes in everyone, what I did was to sweep the cupboard clean. It is surprising what effect it can have, even the zip on the Maxi case slid easily, the new flights as opposed to seeing a mixture off semi worn ones and new ones, looked good, and once assembled the dart itself looked like a jet fighter ready for take offf, result: I enjoyed the next two hours of practise, and I must say on my own. In my case the answer to the question "Is it time to renew your darts" most certainly.
