Phil Taylor defeated Adrian Lewis in the BetVictor World Match play championship at the winter Gardens, Blackpool, last night, in a truly thrilling final, the score line of 18-13 did justice to Taylors 111 average per throw, but Lewis made a real fight of it, averaging 105. I did predict Lewis would take a early lead, and he did, but it only went to 6-4, before Taylor leveled, and did not go behind again, Lewis hit an amazing 19 maximums to Taylors 9, but the Power dominated the finishing, this tournament has been exceptional in every way, the darts have been superb, and the audience without doubt the most appreciative in world darts, the final reflected the quality from day one, and both Taylor and Lewis can be proud of their performance.

Adrian Lewis and michael Van Gerwen, provided a thrilling semi final at the World Matchplay in Blackpool, the treble 20 bed was almost destroyed, 16 maximums from Lewis, and only 6 from MVG, was that the telling factor in the 17-15 win to Lewis? maybe not, at 15-15 MVG had two darts at double 8, and di not recover from the miss, that was all it took to lose this match, which lasted all of 51 minutes.
James Wade did not get of to a good start in his semi ffinal against Phil Taylor, he did manage to pull back at 10-10, but then seemed to lose control again, Taylor powered on and took the last four legs to seal victory, averaging 107 per throw, tonight's final between Taylor and Lewis will be very hard to call, Lewis does have the fire power in the maximum department, but Taylors clinical finishing, and consistant average per leg, will be the test, can Lewis pull away early in the match, or will Taylor stay with him, and then break away as the concentration needed begins to slip, Taylor is the favourite to pick up his 14th Match Play title, and I am sure he will be on top form, likewise I see Lewis back to his form of thee years ago, throwing much more fluently, elbow in, and with it his confidence back, on the form of both players in this tournament, it should be a good, if not great final, don't miss it.

Andy Hamilton and Adrian Lewis slugged it out at the winter Gardens last night, Lewis won 19-17 and hit 13 maximums to Hamiltons 8, in the other quarter final, MVG went one better in his match against Dave Chisnall, scoring 14 maximums, the score line of 16-10 was a little flattering to MVG, chisnall played exceptional well, and the match could have been closer. Now we have two mouthwatering semi ffinal matches tonight, Taylor v Wade, and MVG v Lewis, many predict a 9 dart game is almost a certainty, but don't blink or you may miss it, I cannot predict either match winner, so I will go with a reasonably safe prediction, 35 maximums on the night.
