Phil Taylor won his 5th UK Open Title in Bolton last night, proving to many, he is not past his best, beating Andy Hamilton in the final 11-4 with a average of 106, proved he is still right there with the best, Hamilton was a little fortunate to be in the final, Barney missing with 6 darts to go through to play Taylor was his good fortune, but that is what this tournament is all about, the FA Cup of Darts.

On my way to the Morpeth Comrades Club on Friday night, I called at the Joiners Arms, to have a practise, I was more than delighted when I stood on the Oche, and found to the left of me, this great photograph and tribute to my good friend, Sid Waddell, Sid sadly passed away last year after a long battle with cancer, and it is really nice to see the people of Morpeth, a town not far away from Sid's birthplace, Ashington, have recognised the value Sid made to the people of Northumberland, I thought I had to share it with you.

The World Soft Tip Championship, stage 3, will be played in La Rochelle, Southern France, on the weekend of June 15 and 16, the organisers are claiming The World, to be the largest prize money event in the sport of darts, for you who do not know what soft tip darts is, this is a brief description, the darts are exactly the same as Steel Pointed darts, except the point is made of plastic, the darts board is also plastic, with holes in all segments, the player throws the dart, it enters one of the holes, and the dot matrix system forms a contact that selects the area hit, and deducts the score from the total of the game being played, this means markers and callers are not required, above the electronic machine housing the board is a video screen, should a player score 180, or 3 Bull's Eye's, the video will show fireworks erupting, or something spectacular that will show the audience that the player has scored one of the maximum scores available, the diference between standard dart boards and electronic ones, you have to pay to play Soft Tip, the machine takes coins, like any arcade machine, this can, and is in most cases used to fund the prize money, or the trophies presented to the participants, in the World Soft Tip Championship, the money is considerable, the first prize in France is £9000, I have long been a supporter of soft tip, my reasoning, it brings players into the sport, a lot of people will not play darts because they cannot subtract the scores, with soft tip, you do not have to do that, I have been invited to play in the France Championship, engagements permiting, I may accept.

Michael Van Gerwen is on fire ! after winning the Premier League title on Thursday, MVG jetted off to Germany for the European Darts Open, he continued his run of fine form, reaching the final in quick time, where he defeated Simon Whitlock by 6 legs to 2, now everyone is asking, is this the end of Taylors supremacy ? is MVG the next force to be reckoned with ? he has won 8 titles in 2013, and was runner up in the World Championship, many believe he should have won that, after being 4-1 up, he has won over $700.000 this year so far, he fears no one, and more than anything he has learned how to get the job done, now his confidence is sky high, and the sky is his for the taking, with the British Open, World Matchplay, and the Grand Prix, coming up, who would bet against MVG adding more trophies to his collection, not me.

Michael Van Gerwen wins the Premier League Championship, MVG beat Phil the Power Taylor in a final that will go down, one of the best, MVG had come from from 5-2 down to beat Taylor, and he did so in style, winning 6 legs in a row, Taylor made a real fight of it at this point, and kept within one leg of MVG till the 17th leg, at 9-8, Taylor left 40 after 12 darts, only to have to watch MVG take out 132, with a centre bull finish, and claim his first major PDC title, in the semi finals, Taylor beat Barney, and MVG beat Wade.

If you are thinking of staging your end of year presentation, and would like to include a exhibition, I am taking bookings from July onward, presentations can be great nights, but sometimes only for the winners, the rest of the league members, who without their participation throught the season, the league would not exist, it can be a boring event, but if you include a exhibition for one hour, and let the players who have not won anything take part, you will have a night that keeps everyone happy, I am always available to discuss your night, offer my help to arrange formats, even provide a entertainer for the end of night knees up, provide you with poster/flyers for your members, and even design and print your tickets, a fully inclusive service, and of course your team members have the chance to hace their photograph with a 3 times Champion of the World, and the first player to acheive the perfect 9 dart game on TV, now is the time to think about arranging your special night, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and together we can put a night together that will be remembered for many years.
