The Unicorn PDC challenge tour, for players aged 14 - 25, was a huge success last month in Barnsley, now the tour moves on to Wigan, May 11th wekend, there will be three events, each one with a prize fund of £3000, entry is £30, and must be made online at www.planetdarts/tv before the event. This is a wonderful opportunity for young aspiring players, to test the water, so to speak, fund out if they have the ability, and the confidence needed, to enter the sport at a competitive level, and go on to greater challenges on the senior tour, I wish all competitors success, but most of all enjoyment, and a big thank you to Unicorn for providing the opportunity for so many.

After week nine in the PL, the bottom of the table remained the same, all bottom four players losing, this means Gary Anderson and Wes Newton, will drop out of the league, leaving the top 8 players to play each other once more. Anderson never looked like beating in form Wade, losing 7-3, Newton did put up a fight against Hamilton, but went down 7-5, the two other players fighting for survival, Whitlock and Lewis, will remain in the league, but face a battle to make headway into the top four, Whitlock continued his miserable form, averaging only 88 in a match that michael Van Gerwen won quite easlily, Lewis put up a good display against Barney, and the 7-2 score line does not reflect the true game, in the non relagation battle match, Taylor lost 7-4 to Robert Thornton, Thornton averaged over 100 yet again, proving he is not out of his depth in this company, the table is tight at the top, MVG, Wade, Barney, all on 12 points, Thornton on 11, and Taylor on 10, the battle is well and truly on.

Two players will leave the PL after tonights round in Brighton, it will be a fight for survival for, whitlock, Newton, Lewis and Anderson, surprisingly non of them play each other, and all have difficult matches, that could result in the bottom of the table remaining has it is, Anderson plays Wade, Newton plays Hamilton, Whitlock plays Michael Van Gerwen, and Lewis plays Barney, should Lewis lose, and Anderson and Newton win, it looks like Lewis would still survive with the legs won difference, this should be a great night of darts, the pressure is well and truly on.

Highley WMC, was buzzing last night, the club was packed to the raffters, always great to see when the darters turn out in force, I played Highley club way back in the late 70's, it was a big coal mining area, and the miners supported their club, like no other, many of the older guys wanted to talk to me about those days, and I loved it, my father was a coal miner, and I have an affinity and admiration for them, the players on the Oche where also of a good standard, my challengers put up a great performance, and only narrowly lost, the whole night was a testiment to how a darts exhibition should be run, from the ticket seller, to the bar staff, everyone knew what they had to do, thank's to the people of Highley and district for making us welcome, I trust one day we can return.
