Raymond Van Barnaveldt was knocked out of the World Matchplay in Blackpool last night by Irishman Brendan Dolan 10-7, It was an even match that could have gone either way, Dolan fighting back to form after an indifferent spell of late, Barney like Wade who crashed out last night looking a little jaded after the World Series that has seen them travel around the World. Steve Beaten beat Jalle Klaasen 10-6 and deservedly so, a fine dispaly from Steve who always looks cool and capable. Michael Smith put Simon The Wizard of Oz Whitlock out by 10 legs to 6, Smith's 40% average on the doubles being the winning factor.
Robbie Green took Phil Taylor to 18 legs before Taylor climbed over the line, 10-8, It was an even match both players hitting 7 Maximums each, but there was plenty of missed doubles from both sides, something Taylor will have to correct if he is going to pick up his 16th World Matchplay title.

The event reckoned by many to be the best darts event on the calendar is well underway in Blackpool, a Seaside Resort on the North West Coast of England, the leg format as apposed to sets, produces the best player from every match, it can also produce some embarrassing results.
Day one: The ever improving Kyle Anderson opened the days play with a 10-4 win over Vincent Van der Voort, Robert Thornton beat Josh Payne 10-7, the defending champion and world number 1 Michael Van Gerwen opened hid defence of the title with a whitewash of Jamie Caven 10-0, and a 105.85 average, the man means business, Dave Chisnall beat Benito Van de Pas 10-7.
Day Two: Mensur Siljovic beat Stephen Bunting in the days opener 10-8, Gerwyn Price beat Kim Huybrects 10-8, Terry The Bull Jenkins beat Justin Pipe 10-7 and Ian White knocked Daryl Gurney out 10-2.
The evening session produced the first major shock of the tournament, Mervyn King put highly fancied James Wade out 10-5,Adrian Lewis restored order defeating Mark Webster 10-6, World Champion Gary Anderson lost his first leg to Alan Noris, but he didn't lose another 10-1, Anderson looking good, last match of day 2, Peter Wright beat Joe Cullen 10-5.

World Champion Gary Anderson won the New Zealnd Masters in Aukland yesterday, he beat Raymond Van Barnaveldt in the semi-final 11-7 before going on to beat Adrain Lewis in the final with the same score line, against Barney he averaged a magnificent 111-37 the second highest average in World Series History, his finishing was the defining reason he played so well, averaging 50% in both the semi and the final, this makes a big argument that the all new Unicorn Eclipse HD2 Board is the clearest ever.

The greatest sportsperson in history left us today, Cassius Clay, later Mahammud Ali died at the age of 74. I grew up listening to Boxing on the Radio, it was mystifying and imaginative trying to visualize how hard they faught, when Television came to the Lowe's household Boxing was always a first, still is today, my favourite like many more soon became Cassius Clay, the phrase "I can float like a butterfly and sting like a Bee" was legendary and very true, Cassius changed his name to Mahammud and shortly after I was asked to play him at darts on the BBC in London, it was a memory I will never forget, and one I treasue deeply, I look back and smile when I think of the moment I stood on Ali's shoe to keep his foot from coming off the ground when throwing the darts, how many can say they did that and get away without a slap ? he picked my son Adrian up and sat him on his arm while I took a photograph, I still say it's the biggest smile my son ever made, a few years later I met up with Ali again in Wasatch USA, we sat together at a BBQ for over 2 hours, he could not speak then due to Parkinsons setting in, but he soldiered on for many years until finally losing his battle this morning, I am proud to say goodbye to the greatest, and my friend Ali.
