The World Pairs Cup got underway yesterday and it was a mixed bag of fortunes, averages poor to say the least, doubles hard to find by many, out of 225 attempts at doubles in total, only 61 where successful, the USA came out bottom with only 3 finishes out of 28 attempts, Scotland produced the best average of 93-50, after being 3-1 down Anderson and Thornton had to produce something special, and they did, first Thornton taking out 124, then Anderson 95, and in the final leg of the match Thornton hitting 177 to leave double 12, Anderson obliging.
First day results:
Hungary 5-3 Thailand
USA 3-5 Philippines
Norway 5-2 Gibralter
Denmark 5-2 Sweden
Belgium 5-2 Poland
Scotland 5-3 New Zealand
Netherlands 5-3 Russia
Australia 5-3 Germany

World Champion Gary Anderson made an amazing come back against Michael Van Gerwen to win the Dubai Duty Free Masters Title, at 8-4 down no one gave anderson much of a chance, but 4 straight legs in a row gave him all the confidence needed to make a fight of it, the match was level at 9-9. MVG missed double 16 to let anderson take the lead for the first time, 10-9, then MVG fell to bits missing 6 darts at the doubles to level again, allowing Anderson in to eventually take the leg and victory.
Earlier MVG beat Dave Chisnall 11-7, and Anderson beat Taylor 11-7.

Michael Van Gerwen and Peter Wright produced a classic in the Dubai Duty Free Masters yesterday, after watching the first 2 matches which produced results not quite expected, Chisnall 10 Lewis 1, and Taylor 10 Wade 2, we could be forgiven for thinking something was not right in the playing area, maybe the heat generating a heat breeze from the outdoor tennis arena, whatever, those results flatered Chisnall and Taylor.
The 3rd match was a lot closer between Anderson and Barney, Anderson winning 10-8, this match had 7 breaks of throw and to be honest could have gone either way, things where certainly getting better, and then the tournament erupted into life as MVG and Wright battled it out for a place in the semi-final, Wright was slightly the better player at 7-6 in front, but MVG did what he is the best at, response, 4 legs in a row to win 10-7 and an average of 107.65, Wright would probably have beaten any of the other players on his performance, losing with an average of 106-55.
Todays semi-final line up:
MVG V Chisnall
Taylor V Anderson.

Michael Van Gerwen bacame the Betway Premier League champion for the second time at the O2 Arena in London last night, in his first match semi-final against Adrian Lewis he powered to a 10-4 win, averaging 103.19, he then had to wait while Taylor and Anderson battled it out to decide who would join him in the final, It was a close match but Anderson did not go in front once, he leveled at 4-4 and brought his chances back at 8-7, but that is where it ended, Taylor taking the next 2 legs and a place in the final was his.
The O2 crowd was buzzing with anticipation what was instore as Taylor and then MVG made their walk to the stage, could this be one of the best finals ever between the 2 jiants of the sport ? at 2 legs each it was looking to develop into a classic, then MVG put his foot down and roared away to take a 4 leg lead, Taylor pulled 1 back only to see MVG take out 100 in the next with 2 double top's, 7-3, this stopped Taylor's fight back dead in it's tracks, he didn't, couldn't stop MVG at his best, losing 11-3.
MVG was the only player to average over 100, which he did in both of his matches, on this performance and the way he has maintained his 100 plus average throughout the season, he is undoubtedly the best player in the world, the rest have a lot of catching up to do.

After 15 weeks of play MVG finishes top of the Premier League table in front of his home Dutch Crowd in Rotterdam, his 26 points out of a possible 32 was enough to keep him 2 points clear of Phil Taylor, last night the pair faced each other to decide who would pick up the £25,000 bonus for top place at the end of the league format, it could be said Taylor had a mountain to climb, the 10,000 Orange Clad crowd more than a little biased toward MVG, Taylor's every dart was Booed, MVG's cheered, the match was won by MVG 7-5 with just 1 break of throw, a great performance when needed, and one that will see him play next week full of confidence.
James Wade opened the night against Robert Thornton, a 7-3 win for Wade finished Thornton's miserable season off, just 2 wins will make his place in 2017 very doubtful.
Peter Wright needed a win against the home crowd favourite Raymond Van Barnaveldt to give him a chance to make the top 4, at 4-3 he looked the better player but 7 missed darts at the doubles let Barney in, again at 6-4 to Wright and 1 point secure Barney takes out 121 on the Bull, Wright had another chance to seal the win in the next leg but missed double 19 and double 8 to let Barney claim a draw with double 8.
Lewis was determined to secure the 1 point he needed against Gary Anderson knowing it would put him in the play off's next week at the O2 in london, once that point was safely in the bag it became easy to wrap up the match with a 7-2 win.
The final night of this years Premier League will be at the O2 Arena in London next Thursday night, Adrian Lewis will play Michael Van Gerwen, Rhil Taylor will play Gary Anderson. SKY Sports 1 at 7pm.

All 4 matches in the Premier League Week 14 went convincingly one way, first James Wade could not live with Peter Wright's push to make the play-off's a reality, losing 7-1.
Gary Anderson dismissed Robert Thornton with ease 7-1 and secured his place in the top 4, and a great chance to retain the title he won last year.
The Dutch duo MVG and RVB brought a lot of excitment to the arena, but this match was also one way traffic, MVG winning 7-2 and staying top of the league.
Last was Taylor and Lewis, many expecting Lewis to make his claim for a play off place, but once again it was another one man show, Taylor winning 7-2 with relative ease.
The Premier League moves to Rotterdam next week for the first time, the response has been magnificent, a sell out in just 1 hour, and the audience will have plenty to look forward to, Lewis and Wright are just 1 point apart, both playing to secure the remaining 4th place at the O2 and the finals, Lewis takes on World Champion Gary Anderson, Wright plays Raymond Van Barnaveldt.
Top of the Bill is Taylor v MVG and they will be playing for the £25,000 bonus that goes to the player at the top of the table after the league format finishes, Taylor needs to beat MVG to make sure he picks up the spoils, MVG would settle for a draw, but knowing how he plays and the averages he has produced in the League this year it is hard to see him losing out.
